Great Dane stuck in tree: 'Kora' was rescued from a tree and nobody knows how she got there

A giant Great Dane named Kora got stuck in a tree in Louisville, Neb.

A 16-month-old Great Dane appears to be happy to be down on solid ground again after spending around four hours stuck seven metres up a tree in Louisville, Neb.

In a scene usually reserved for flighty felines, Kora was rescued over the weekend after her owner Weston McGuirk discovered her clinging to the branches of a large tree on the edge of his property.

“I heard some whimpering once in a while while I was searing for her. So I started towards the edge of the yard. I heard some grumbling and I looked up,” said McGuirk.

“I could not believe what I saw.”

Even the volunteer firefighters were skeptical when they first got the call.

“While we were responding, we were admittedly somewhat skeptical. Upon arrival, sure enough, there she was. A 120-pound Great Dane about 20 feet up in the tree,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.

McGuirk thinks that Kora was chasing a raccoon or squirrel up the tree before she realized she was too scared to come down on her own. He said she has never climbed trees before and her breed is not known to be good climbers, but Kora “succeeded with flying colours.”

“I wasn’t that surprised [she got up there],” he said. “She’s very energetic and hyperactive.”

But McGuirk said Kora was scared up in her unintended perch as the wind was blowing hard.

Rescuers climbed the tree and placed a harness on Kora and were able to lower her down with a long leash and onto a net.

“She was very happy,” said McGuirk. “She’s learned her lesson.”
