The first lady wore a purple gown designed by Tadashi Shoji while hosting the Japanese Prime Minister and his wife at a State Dinner. The gown included a feather motif and an embroidered tulle full skirt. The gown is from the fall collection.

Tuesday’s State Dinner was the first since 2011 to be held indoors, as opposed to holding it on the south lawn under a tent. Guests were in store for a five-course fusion meal by “Iron Chef’s” Masaharu Morimoto served on the first family’s new Hawaiian-inspired china with a blue border.

Earlier in the day, Obama also went with a Tadashi Shoji dress for an appearance with the prime minister’s wife, Akie Abe, at Great Falls Elementary School in Great Falls, Va. FLOTUS turned up in a modified version of a multicolored floral lace dress with sheer banded inset from the designer’s spring collection.
