Erskine college bans homosexuality after two student volleyball players come out as gay

After two volleyball players came out as gay, Erskine College, its Board of Trustees and its athletic department were pressured to make the school an inhospitable place for gay athletes.

Erskine College has stated that these reports are “inaccurate” as the statement is not a policy, but a position. In a statement, the university says that no students have been banned from attending the school nor have any students been asked to leave Erskine.

A statement from the college reads, ” “Rooted in the historic Evangelical and Reformed Christian tradition, Erskine has always sought to show hospitality and respect to all members of its community, regardless of their religious or philosophical commitments.”

Erskine says though theological traditions of Christian dialect this is not an unusual stance on human sexuality.

Erskine further states, “Erskine’s conduct policies and procedures seek to uphold biblical standards, promote repentance and grace, and point people to Jesus Christ.”
