Donovan McNabb Statement : Former NFL quarterback makes bizarre statement after (another) DUI arrest

Donovan McNabb makes statement about latest DUI arrest.

Donovan McNabb has been many things — a state champion high school quarterback at Mount Carmel, a playoff-caliber NFL quarterback, a six-time Pro Bowler and a Fox Sports TV analyst.

More inauspiciously, McNabb recently achieved his second DUI arrest in two years.

The 38-year-old South Side native was taken into custody in Gilbert, AZ, the night of June 28 after he rear-ended a car driven by a tribal police officer. He told police he had just left a local sports bar and was driving home.

“While Donovan spoke, I noticed a strong, fruity odor on his breath. I noticed Donovan’s eyes were watery and very bloodshot and his speech was slurred,” reads the police report.

On Wednesday, McNabb, who lives in suburban Phoenix, talked about the arrest on his NBC sports talk radio show.

“There was a story that was released, and I want everybody to be cognizant of it, because I am very aware of it, handling the matter at this particular point. … But at this point, I have no further information, and as we continue on with the situation, then we’ll let it handle as it will handle itself.”

If he’s convicted of a second DUI in Arizona, McNabb will face a mandatory 90 days in jail.
