David Beckham has landed a small role in the upcoming King Arthur movie, directed by his good friend, Guy Ritchie.

Hollywood is nothing if not a King Arthur rebooting factory, and Guy Ritchie is the latest filmmaker to pull the director’s-chair-sword from the studio-money-stone. And among King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’s actors (pronounced the fancy way, please—ac-tors) is David Beckham, whose handsomeness takes a sharp dip for his still-secretive part.

“I had 13 lines and practised a huge amount beforehand,” the 41-year-old soccer legend told England’s The Times of his “nerve-wracking” experience back in September 2015. “Guy had someone come and rehearse with me, and I did that an hour every day in the build-up.”

Beckham’s sole other feature film credit where he doesn’t appear as himself came in Ritchie’s 2015 remake The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Becks also spoke to The Times about the criticism he’s sure is coming his way for the King Arthur part:

“I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed. I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn’t want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice. But what I have done so far, I have loved. I can deal with most things. I am a well-known person, so I have got used to criticism.”

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is set for May 12. The film also stars Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana, Annabelle Wallis, Hermione Corfield, Djimon Hounsou, Katie McGrath and more.
