Daughter Locked In Basement : Wisconsin teenager forced to live in basement, wear diaper, police say

Wisconsin couple locked autistic daughter in basement? Police got an anonymous call, saying she was “being treated like an animal.”

The girl’s mother told police her husband “finds her daughter disgusting and refuses to allow her to sit on any surface in the home.”

Further, the mother said the step-father refers to the girl as “Stink.”

They’re accused of refusing to allow social workers into the home.

It’s heartbreaking for the people at the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin.

“It makes me cry, or want to punch somebody. Both. I can’t understand wanting to hurt a child,” said Emily Levine, executive director of the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin.

The parent of an autistic child herself, Levine said parents of special needs children can feel overwhelmed but need to know there are resources available and shouldn’t be embarrassed or ashamed to reach out for help.

“This is part of the stigma that’s attached to autism and other behavioral disorders, is people are treated in an inhuman way,” Levine said.
