Daniel Fells: NY Giants player could lose foot to MRSA, report says

Giants tight end Daniel Fells remains hospitalized as doctors continue to treat the MRSA infection that ended his season.

According to the report, Fells has had five different surgeries, with more coming, as doctors “fight to save his foot.” They fear the MRSA has made its way into Fells’s bones, and could enter his bloodstream. He’s been moved to the intensive care unit to receive full attention.

Fells sustained a toe injury, and an ankle injury, and was placed on season-ending injured reserve after missing last Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. A week after receiving a cortisone shot for the ailments, Fells developed MRSA, a dangerous staph infection.

The Giants have taken precautions at their facilities to prevent MRSA from spreading, having it scrubbed in its entirety and briefing players on the infection.

They face the 49ers on Sunday Night Football and Fells posted a message of support on Instagram before the game.
