Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced his engagement to Texas native Amy Reimann early Wednesday morning on Twitter.
“I’m completely overwhelmed with love & joy,” Reimann tweeted. “Happiest girl in the world! I love you so much @DaleJr.”
Earnhardt, 40, popped the question inside a church that the family has attended for seven generations. The Lutheran Church is 300 years old.
“Looking forward to the rest of my life with this amazing girl,” Earnhardt Jr. tweeted.
Earnhardt Jr. who met Reimann in 2009 while she was doing interior design work on his house, has fended off rumors about nuptials for a while. There was a National Enquirer report that he was going to invite all of his closest friends for a wedding at Daytona International Speedway.
“No, of course not,” he said last May. “I would not force everybody to go down (from North Carolina) to Daytona for my wedding. I probably would just have it right there in the backyard, but whatever is easiest. That was funny. I read that and it was a roller coaster of an article. Pretty good.”
Junior also laughed off the details — that he would be cutting a $2 million check to pay for the wedding. He is known as a fairly frugal guy.
“I definitely would have a hard time writing that check,” he said, laughing.
