C.J. Wilson, Buccaneers cornerback, reportedly lose two fingers in fireworks accident.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back C.J. Wilson severely injured one of his hands in a Fourth of July fireworks accident Saturday, according to the Lincoln Times-News.
The former Lincolnton High School football standout lost two fingers in the accident, sources close to the family confirmed to the Times-News.
C.J. Wilson was home visiting family and friends when the accident happened.
C.J. Wilson was acquired by the Buccaneers last fall and was set to enter training camp next month.
“We are aware that C.J. was involved in an accident that occurred over the July 4th holiday. It is our understanding that the injury occurred to one of his hands and our primary concern at this moment is for his long-term health. We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation,” Tampa Bay said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
