Buddy dog hitches ride on ambulance when owner rushed to the hospital

Dog ‘Buddy’ Hitches Ride Aboard Ambulance To Be With His Hospitalized Owner, When his 85-year-old owner J.R. Nicholson was put in an ambulance to be taken to hospital, Buddy wasn’t about to wait at home obediently.

Ranch hand Brian Wright said Friday that he summoned the ambulance Oct. 26 when Nicholson felt dizzy.

The San Angelo Standard-Times reports a motorist flagged down the ambulance to say a dog was on a side step. Buddy was then put into the ambulance with the patient.

Wright drove separately. At the hospital, medical staff told him about Buddy’s trip. Wright retrieved the dog from the ambulance, then later drove his boss and Buddy home.

“I was impressed,” said Nicholson, who got Buddy about four months ago from an animal shelter in Mason. “He didn’t have to go to the hospital with me, but he did.”
