Bobby Zamora retires from football and thanks West Ham, Fulham, QPR and Tottenham for ‘amazing memories’.

The former Brighton, West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham striker confirmed that he decided to hang up his boots via his official Twitter account on Friday afternoon and thanked the supporters of every club he had played for, for their unwavering support.

The 35-year-old had been without a club since leaving Brighton at the end of last season following surgery on a troublesome hip problem, and made the choice to hang up his boots ahead of his 36th birthday next month.

Zamora begun his professional career at Bristol Rovers in August 1999, making six brief substitute appearances before joining Brighton & Hove Albion on loan the following February.

A £130,000 transfer to the Gulls took place that summer at the end of the successful temporary stint, and the target man plundered a highly impressive 70 goals in around 120 appearances during his first spell at the club.

His form saw a number of Premier League sides take interest in him and in August 2003, Tottenham made the plunge and prized him away from Brighton in a deal worth £1.5m. However, Zamora failed to register a single goal in 16 matches for Spurs, and subsequently joined West Ham in a swap deal with Jermain Defoe, after a dismal six months at White Hart Lane.

Zamora’s four seasons at Upton Park were more enjoyable, with the forward bagging 38 goals in 147 appearances before he once again headed off for pastures new – this time joining Fulham for around £3.5m in July 2008.

The two-times capped England international scored on 37 occasions for the Craven Cottage based side, and helped fire the Londoners to an unlikely UEFA Cup final during the 2009/10 campaign before suffering heartbreak thanks to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

A £5m move to Loftus Road with QPR followed in January 2012 but, after notching just 12 goals in almost 100 games, Zamora re-joined Brighton on a free transfer in the summer of 2015. He found the net on seven occasions before a hip injury curtailed his season. In all, Zamora scored 110 goals in 450 appearances in all competitions during his career.
