Black Bear Accident : 3 Dead, 8 Injured After Vehicle Hits, Kills Bear

Black Bear Causes Accident, Police say a motorist’s vehicle struck and killed a black bear on a road in the Florida Everglades and three others who had gone to the woman’s aid where then struck and killed by another vehicle.

A car had pulled off to the side of a remote road and three people had emerged to help a lone woman who had struck and killed a 300-pound black bear at Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in the Everglades.

However, “Once they got out of their vehicle, a third car plowed into the disabled SUV then hit the three good Samaritans, authorities said,” CNN reports. All three unidentified individuals have died.

Spokesman for the Seminole Police Department, Gary Bitner explains, “I have never heard of a case of a bear being in a traffic accident,” CNN further reports. “We have had cases of Florida panthers being involved in car accident, but not a Florida black bear.”

The three-car pile up involved 13 passengers total. Eight were listed as injured and two survived the accident unharmed — including the unidentified woman in the SUV.
