A Baby elephant survived an attack by 14 lions at Zambia’s Norman Carr Safaris Chinzombo Camp. The elephant had strayed from its mother, but after a struggle, he managed to safely flee the lions.
The attack was caught on camera by four tourists on a safari bar the Norman Carr Safaris’ Chinzombo Camp.
The elephant, who has been dubbed Hercules by the staff at the camp, manages to shrug off the lionesses, even though several of them jump on its back and bite. At one point, the elephant chases off some of the lions while wading through a stream and gives a couple of them a good kick.
“In the many years I have been a safari guide in Zambia at the South Luangwa, never have I seen anything like this,” said a tour guide identified by the camp’s website as Innocent. “We were all so worried the elephant would be killed right before us. What a fighter. It fought off all 14 lions. Incredible.”
The baby elephant has since been reunited with its herd.
