Arsenal vs Ludogorets, Champions League: Mesut Ozil stunner delights Gunners after they were two down.

Mesut Ozil’s second-half winner brought praise from Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, who said “great players make the right decisions.”

Wenger said he thought Ozil had missed his chance with the score at 2-2 in their Champions League game against PFC Ludogorets Razgradin.

“You know, I would say the great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face. They always make the optimal solution,” Wenger said.

“To me it didn’t look for a while like the optimal solution, but when the ball was in the net I thought it was.”

Arsenal worked their way back to parity in the first-half after falling behind 2-0 in Sofia, before Ozil scored a superb goal in the 87th minute to claim a 3-2 win, lifting the ball over goalkeeper Milan Borjan and fooling two defenders to put the ball in.

“You wanted him to take maybe his chance earlier, but at the end he had enough skill to prove that he was right,” Wenger said.

Ozil took to Twitter after the game to hail his team’s dogged performance as they came from behind to win the match.

Ozil with last night’s display further strengthened his position in contract negotiations with the Gunners as the German is in talks to extend his current deal which runs out in 2018.

The London-based club remain in talks with both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, whose deal also expires in 2018 with chief executive Ivan Gazidis saying at a recent AGM that the club were now able to compete with their rivals over player wages.

Wenger also had praise for goalkeeper David Ospina.

“It is good that we have two excellent goalkeepers, and this game proved why we need them,” he said.

Ospina denied Ludogorets in the second-half, blocking Wanderson’s shot in a one-on-one situation.

Wenger left Petr Cech on the bench ahead of Sunday’s Premier League derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

The win in Bulgaria kept Arsenal at the top of the Group A table and have now qualified for the last 16.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain are equal points but second on goal difference.
