Angela Ramey: Mom bounces in half court shot for daughter's tuition

Angela Ramey, a mom from Minnesota was given three attempts to make a half-court shot in order to win thousands of dollars off her daughters private school tuition for next year.

Angela Ramey’s family raised the most money for a Bethany Academy fundraiser benefiting the hungry in the local community. Their effort earned them one half-court basketball shot and a chance at half-price tuition for 2016.

Ramey’s “granny style” two-handed shot on Dec. 7 initially seemed like a big failure. But a good bounce propelled the ball into the net while students, teachers and parents in the crowd began celebrating wildly.

“I played basketball for Grace Lutheran in fifth and sixth grades but beyond that, I’m not sports inclined,” Ramey told KARE. “I looked at the ball. I looked at the ground. I dribbled once. I closed my eyes and I said a quick prayer.”

Angela Ramey stood in shock — her jaw hanging wide open — while her daughter, Grace, jumped up and down in jubilation.

Footage of the lucky moment was posted on the academy’s Facebook page and began trending Wednesday night. It had been watched more than 175,000 times by Thursday morning.

Bethany Academy is a private Christian school located in Bloomington, Minn. Ramey’s shot took place in the school’s gym during an event called “Bethany Loves Bloomington.”

A total of 41,040 meals were packed by 235 students during the event “to help feed the hungry in Bloomington and the surrounding communities,” according to a Facebook post.
