Andrew McCutchen : Pirates Star sheds locks to benefit charity

Andrew McCutchen cut off his trademark dreadlocks for charity.

The locks will be auctioned off on MLB.com and the proceeds will benefit Pirates Charities.

McCutchen posted a video on Twitter and YouTube, announcing “Here’s to #newbeginnings.” The video shows the step-by-step process it takes to remove the locks. He also posted a “before and after” photo on Instagram.

“As sad as i hate to see them go, I was ready for a change. I will be donating my locs as well as auctioning them off for a great cause,” McCutchen wrote on Instagram.

McCutchen has been a star for the Pirates since he debuted in 2009 and has made the NL All-Star every year since 2011. He also won the 2013 NL MVP award. He has also helped the Pirates make it to the postseason two years in a row, although they were knocked out in the NL Wild Card game last season.

While it will be really strange to see McCutchen play without his trademark dreadlocks, that won’t stop him from keeping up his level of performance.
