Andrew Harrison’s Apology for Racial Obscenity is Meaningless - Watch

Kentucky guard Andrew Harrison is apologizing for directing an obscenity and a racial slur at Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky during a postgame news conference at the Final Four.

The NCAA tournament took a stunning turn on Saturday when the previously undefeated Kentucky lost to the University of Wisconsin in the Final Four. Emotions were high in the post-game press conference, where the Kentucky players were gathered to discuss the heartbreaking loss. When a teammate was asked about Wisconsin center Frank Kaminsky, Harrison could be heard via his live mic saying, “F*ck that n*gga.”

The clip went viral within minutes, and Harrison took to Twitter early Sunday to offer an apology. “First I want to apologize for my poor choice of words used in jest towards a player I respect and know,” began the athlete. He went on, “When I realized how this could be perceived I immediately called big frank to apologize and let him know I didn’t mean any disrespect.” Harrison added, “We had a good conversation and I wished him good luck in the championship game Monday.”

Ironically, Kaminsky’s Wisconson teammate Nigel Hayes had his own live mic mishap last week, when he was picked up calling a reporter beautiful. Obviously, despite the similar circumstances, this is a very different situation.
