Alan and Lisa Robertson - Book : Duck Dynasty Wife Expresses Regret Over Choosing To Abort Her Child

The wife of “Duck Dynasty” star Al Robertson revealed that she considers herself pro-choice during an interview with HuffPo Live Tuesday, while at the same time citing her Christian faith in speaking out against abortion.

Lisa Robertson said she continues to think about the abortion she had as a teenage girl and long for the child she could have had.

Lisa met Alan, the often beardless child of the Robertson family, when both were wild teenagers. After he lived the fast life in New Orleans, she, too, began looking for love in all the wrong places.

“I call it a free-fall” that “sent me down a road of drugs and sex and pregnancy,” she told HuffPost Live’s Nancy Redd.

That resulted in pregnancy and an abortion, “which to this day is something that I truly regret,” she said.

“There has not been – maybe a day has gone by that I have not thought of this child,” Lisa said. “We have two daughters, two grown daughters. I could have had three children, and I messed that up.”

The couple detail their hedonistic days, and the way marriage and a commitment to Jesus Christ changed their lives, in the new book A New Season: A Robertson Family Love Story of Brokenness and Redemption.

Redd said in the interview, which was recorded yesterday, that aborting another man’s child allowed Lisa and Alan to reunite.

“One of the problems,” Redd said, is that “people are constantly fighting against the ability to have an abortion.”

“At the time it was the answer that I sought,” Lisa replied. “As I sit here today, that’s not the answer I would have chosen had I known better, had I been more mature in my thinking.”

“I would never say that that was a good choice,” she said.

“I don’t feel like I should have had a choice to take that life,” Lisa continued. “God is the only Person that has the choice to take a life, or to bring into the world a life.”

However, when asked if she considers herself “pro-choice,” Lisa responded, “Yes, I do.” But she added, “I would not make the same choice again.”

That introduced one of the rare notes of discord between the two. “I would say I’m pro-life,” Alan said. “If it were up to me, I think it’s best not to have a choice to end life…I wish there weren’t abortion in the world.”

The pain that abortion inflicted on the couple remained evident throughout the interview.

“Having an abortion is not [a mistake] that you cannot come back from, but it is one that you will live with for the rest of your life,” Lisa said. “You will think about it the rest of your life.”
