Abuse in Hollywood : Animal control officers not surprised by abused dog

The Charleston Animal Society says Dara is the third dog this year to be severely abused in the Hollywood area. Neighbors and officers on Monday discussed the issue.

The 30-pound hound mix is slated for another surgery Monday at Mount Pleasant Specialty Care after being shot several times.

Charleston County Deputies brought the six-month-old dog into the Animal Society Friday where it was then transferred to the veterinarian in Mount Pleasant.

Sgt. David Willis of the Charleston County Sheriff said Dara was actually shot Wednesday and discovered Friday. Willis also said that Dara is a stray, but a neighborhood dog that everyone took care of.

Charleston Animal Society Cruelty Director Aldwin Roman says Dara was shot up to 7 times and her wounds indicate she was shot running away. Dara has a fractured front left leg and two bullets lodged in her rear leg.

This is the third time a dog has been shot in the Hollywood area this year. In all three instances, the dogs have been shot in the legs multiple times and all have survived.
