Officials in Rensselaer County respond to a home where 150 cats were discovered in Pleasantdale.

State Police Sgt. S.P. Dauphinais tells the Albany Times-Union the home is in “deplorable condition.” He said officials removed 80 cats Tuesday and will return for the rest on Wednesday.

The house owned by Bertha Ryan is in Schaghticoke.

Brad Shear, executive director of the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, tells the newspaper Ryan and her family had been involved in three previous cat hoarding incidents, for a total of 450 cats.

Ryan and her sister Regina Millard were stopped in 2010 by police in Bennington, Vermont, with 77 cats in two cars.
